Licence Management 2005/12/06 07:41
Hi,

It would be good if Virtualmin could display some information about the current license maybe in the system info panel or on a seperate page. I currently only run one virtualmin box, but for those running multiple machines it may be useful to be able to see the license key in use, and possibly update it.

It would certainly be useful to display the currently used domain slots and the maximum for the licence.

With reference to my post about[a href="http://www.virtualmin.com/forums/message-view?message_id=16941">licence upgrades a link from the serial number page (http://www.virtualmin.com/serial/) to be able to upgrade a license key would make sense.

These are solid points and as I am thinking about switching my network to Virtualmin these points make perfect sense.

Hey Chris,

These are excellent ideas, and they are on the agenda for the license manager. We are working on integrating the license validation tools (which are in Perl, and run on both our server and on each Virtualmin server) with the website (which is an OpenACS package written in TCL), which will give us the ability to display the IP address that each license in running on, number of domains used and available, and other cool stuff.

There's quite a bit of work that needs to be done on the Serial Numbers package in OpenACS, as well, to allow for upgrades--right now they have to be manually upgraded, but it is possible. You just have to let me know you want to upgrade, and fax over billing details--but before the Early Adopter period ends, upgrades will be possible using the normal shopping cart mechanism. License renewals are also not working yet, but certainly will be by the time we get close to anyone needing it. ;-)

Are there any plans to create a 'life-time' license? I hate to have to keep renewing something.
