I've used Webmin before, and I know that requires that all other bits and peices are installed before hand, such as Postfix, etc.

I have my cursor hanging over the "Buy" button for Virtualmin, but before I do, being new to Linux, am I right in saying that the Virtualmin install process installs all required components automatically or do they need to be installed manually?

Hi Liam,

Yup -- there's an install script that you'd use in order to perform the Virtualmin installation, that should handle dependencies and such.

The simplest way to install is to take a fresh installation of your preferred distribution, download the install.sh script, run it, and you should be good to go!

Well, you have two options.

If you opt to buy it now -- and you later decide you don't like it, you can request a refund within 45 days of purchasing it. Joe and Jamie are pretty good about all that -- they want folks to be happy with it, so if for whatever reason it doesn't meet your needs, they'd certainly refund your money (though, be sure to inquire first, as maybe there's something they can help with!).

The other option is that there is a GPL/free version (Over at http://webmin.com/vinstall.html). It doesn't have all the features of the Pro, and you'd later need to go through a (fairly painless) upgrade process to switch to the Pro version. But it's certainly an option if you're reluctant to hit the "Buy" button ;-)

Hi Eric, apologies for spelling your name wrong earlier!

I've previously been using Windows 2003 and thought it's about time I finally made the move over to Linux. I've been playing with Ubuntu 8.04 for a couple of weeks now on a test box but previously to this I've had my website running off another Linux (Ubuntu) box but that's all been set up manually and although it's running fine now after the initial setup if anything were to wrong I'd be screwed.

I've tried the Virtualmin GPL version and found it great but I'd much prefer to buy the Pro version for the extra benefits. I'm also running Webmin at the moment and it's great!

From what you've mentioned, I'll buy the Pro version right now and get this installed on my 3rd, proper system. I am sure I will be more than happy with it but the 45 day money back guarantee puts my mind at rest.

Not a bad place this, should have visited sooner! :)

Started the install process and it got this far, you can see the error below; Seems to have stopped when getting the package signing keys? :(

Well, nuts!

It looks like it's for some reason not able to get to the URL "http://software.virtualmin.com/lib/RPM-GPG-KEY-virtualmin" to retrieve the key file.

I'd try it once more in case it was some sort of network hiccup (it happens!).

It that doesn't work, you can take that output and file a bug report:

And then Jamie or Joe or I or someone will try and figure out what's going wrong :-)

Must of been a network hiccup... just tried it again and whizzed past the part where it failed on the check...

It's just removing the debian apache packages and installing the dependencies as I speak or should that be type!

I received a few more errors.. but instead of panicking I decided to just try again... it paid off... and I have just had those magic words pop up on my screen;
