Invalid method in request x16x03x01 2008/10/08 06:52
Anybody getting "Invalid method in request x16x03x01" in apache logs?

happens every 2 minutes and I think this might be the cause of the system being bogged down. Fresh install on CentOS 5.2 with Apache 2.2.3.

In searching it looks like SSL is setup incorrectly, but I used virtualmin to set things up. Looking at config files more closely now.

Hi Dennis,

When you look at /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf, you'll see a number of sections in there labeled <VirtualHost ...>

What do you see where the "..." is above? Is it always an IP address and a port (such as <VirtualHost 1.2.3.4:80> ), or is it sometimes either an asterisk (*) or missing the port (just 1.2.3.4)?

Yes, I had checked that and every entry does have the <VirtualHost octet:port>

I am now wondering if it is some kind of scripted attack, because it is only coming from one IP address about every 2 minutes and I can't replicate the error myself. At this point I am going to block the IP.
