Secondary MX setup 2006/08/24 23:27
Can Virtualmin Pro use another server running Virtualmin GPL for secondary MX?

I've successfully set up secondary DNS between the two just using the BIND cluster services in Webmin (no Virtualmin installed on the second server at all), but when trying to set up secondary MX, I get an error saying that the remote server needs to have Virtualmin installed.

Hey Joshua,

Yes, I believe it would, though I don't actually know the details of the implementation. I'm kind of surprised Virtualmin is needed on the secondary at all, though, so I might be missing some detail of what goes into secondary service. I would assume it just adds the domain name to the relay domains list which almost certainly a function in the postfix-lib.pl or sendmail-lib.pl rather than the virtual-server-lib. But maybe Virtualmin adds some magic in the maintenance of this stuff.

Let us know what you find out! ;-)

If it doesn't work, I'll see about making it work. In general, I'd like for most of the secondary services to be offloadable to Webmin servers without requiring additional software purchases. I'm not real sure why I'd like it to be that way, since you buying more software means me making more money, but it just feels like the right thing to do so we'll try to go that route and try to make up for it in market goodwill. ;-)
