New Virtualmin Unlimited Lifetime License

Howdy all,

Over the years, we've had folks ask about "lifetime" licenses of Virtualmin. I've always demurred, because the cost of ongoing maintenance of some Virtualmin Professional features (Install Scripts, as well as many of the packages provided by our repos) meant that such a license would have to be pretty pricey, and I want to avoid giving folks sticker shock (we also wanted to make sure folks had reason to believe we would be around for the long haul as a commercial entity, before making promises that span more than a year).

But, the requests have persisted over the years, and my explanations for why we'd never even tried offering such an option have begun to seem silly. So, a perpetual license option for Virtualmin Unlimited now appears in the shop.

This is an experiment, and the product may go away at any time (if we find that it confuses folks, in particular), but if it works out we may add perpetual licenses for all of our products. There is also no guarantee that this price will remain the same. We're just beginning to have the data we need to make decisions about cost-per-customer and cost-per-installation in this context, so as we learn more, things may change.

If you have an existing Virtualmin Unlimited annual license, you may upgrade to the perpetual license; just send me an email (joe@virtualmin.com), and I'll do the math on how much it will cost (it will depend on how many times you've renewed, and gets cheaper the longer you've already had the license).

Please let us know what you think, and whether you'd like to see similar buying options for our other products.

Regards,

Joe

I think doing this by percentage renewed would be a better way to advertise this.

EG; for each year renewed its 10% off the lifetime...

or something like that.

The way you word it now is like going to restaurant that has no prices for the food and thus you wont bother asking and leave.
