Sending email, allowed domains Urgent!

I'm surprised that I can't find something about this already, perhaps I just can't find it. Apologies if that is the case.

I have a situation where I need to allow a customer to send email using Outlook as normal but saying that it came from a domain hosted elsewhere. This is completely legitimate, I promise. :o)

So, to make it clear, I hope :

The domain he has hosted with us is "acompany.com" and his email address is "fred@acompany.com".

He can send and receive email without a problem.

Now, he also needs to send email as having been sent by and reply to "fred@anothercompany.com"

anothercompany.com is not hosted by us. If Outlook is set up to send as having come from "fred@anothercompany.com" the email fails, quite rightly.

This is a trusted user and I need to set this up in a bit of a hurry.

I am sure I have seen somewhere that this domain can be enabled but I can't find it. Can anybody offer ant help please.

Thanks for reading

Actually, Outlook shouldn't fail in that case.

An authenticated user should be able to set their From address to anything they like.

The username needs to remain the same (fred@acompany.com), but the From address can be anything (for better or worse, users picking random things there can sometimes lead to trouble ;-)

My suggestion would be to make sure that the username is correct.

If that doesn't work, let us know what error you're seeing, both in Outlook and the mail logs (in /var/log/maillog or /var/log/mail.log).

Hmmmm !

The damnable systems are conspiring against me. No, I'm not paranoid, they really are out to get me ! It's the voices in my head, they told me to do it !

My apologies, When I tried earlier, I left the username etc unchanged and only changed the from adddress.

The send failed (something like unable to find server).

Changed the from address back and a send worked.

Some ISPs (here in the UK anyway) block email sending if the from address does not match their ISP so I assumed that was the issue.

Seems like it is working now, must have been a fluke.

Apologies for wasting your time.
