Rebuild Postfix Config Files/User unknown in virtual alias table

Hello,

i have been trying to deal with the postfix cf's. But I think, they're broken now.

Is there any chance to let virtualmin rebuild the cf's?

The Problem is: Whenever i try to send an Email to email@mydomain.com, it is rejected with:

             The mail system

BOUNCE@mydomain.com (expanded from email@mydomain.com): User unknown in virtual alias table

Final-Recipient: rfc822; BOUNCE@myhostname.com <- different from mydomain.com Original-Recipient: rfc822;email@mydomain.com Action: failed Status: 5.0.0 Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; User unknown in virtual alias table

There's no way to rebuild them, as there's no way to determine what is correct :-)

The "BOUNCE" thing you're seeing can happen if the address is setup as an Alias in the Virtual Server, and in "Edit Mail Aliases", and address is setup with the "Bounce mail?" checkbox checked.

Only if you have backups of them :-)

Otherwise, perhaps if you have a test system setup, you could pull those files from there.

For example, if you install something like VMware Server on your desktop (which is free), you can install your distro in a VM, and after installing Virtualmin, pull the config files from it.

Thank You for now-i used vmware to install a dummy of virtualmin. Same System ( Debian Lenny).

I transformed the cf's from the new system and copied them with adequate changes to my old system running virtualmin.

I tried to send another E-Mail to the Server.. Now i get another Error:

              The mail system

BOUNCE@fqdn.com (expanded from user@subdomain.domain.com): unknown user: "bounce"

Final-Recipient: rfc822; BOUNCE@fqdn.com Original-Recipient: rfc822;user@subdomain.domain.com Action: failed Status: 5.1.1 Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; unknown user: "bounce"

What happend now?

That sounds remarkably similar to the error you had been getting -- did you by chance verify that you don't have an alias setup for this particular user that's causing it to bounce?

Look in "Edit Mail Aliases", and make sure you don't have an alias with "Bounce Mail" checked.

Okay... Solution found:

I had "Bounce Mail" for all Aliases activated. Crap.

I didn't notice that type of Alias, because it was a failure for a Subdomain.

I imported the whole Virtual Server from a Plesk System. The Alias must have been created by that Import. Maybe this should be checked by the people at Virtualmin, cause its very annoying!
