constant error: Failed to lock file /etc/webmin/servers/1285063037163350.serv after 5 minutes

Hi,

I'm constantly getting errors like this one:

Failed to save IP pools : Failed to lock file /etc/webmin/servers/1285063037163350.serv after 5 minutes

when I do pretty much anything in CloudMin. This one I got when I tried to make some changes to an existing IP pool. Others similar errors appear when I need to make changed to everything. What causes this, and how do I fix it?

Did this just start happening recently, or had you run into this issue before?

And what distribution is it that you're using?

Lastly, did you make any updates on your system recently?

It started happening recently. The only update(s) I ever perform is the updates listed in CloudMin. The server runs CentOS 5.5

root@master1:[~]$ more /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 5.5 (Final) root@master1:[~]$ uname -a Linux master1 2.6.18-194.11.4.el5xen #1 SMP Tue Sep 21 06:28:04 EDT 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux root@master1:[~]$

I am experiencing the same problem for one of my guest systems. And unfortunately I can't either restart or stop it...

Edit: Running cloudmin shutdown-system --force --host name-for-the-host doesn't help, it just hangs for long time and then gives:

Error: Failed to lock file /etc/webmin/servers/1366115933151170.serv after 5 minutes. Last error was :

Failed to lock file /etc/webmin/servers/1366115933151170.serv after 5 minutes. Last error was :

If I go to Cloudmin and click on Edit System, then I can see the following status for the system:

System locked by Command [scsi_eh_3], running for 12 hours, 14:14 minutes

Howdy,

That means that there is a lock file in "/etc/webmin/servers/1366115933151170.serv.lock" that may need to be removed.

Try stopping Webmin, delete the .lock file, then restart Webmin.

After that, does it work properly?

Hi Eric,

I will try your suggestion next time if I experience the same issue again. This time I had to reboot the master Cloudmin physical server to make the guest system work.

Thanks!
