Delete OR stop the flood of spam I am getting

Hi

I am totally new to LAMP/WAMP coming from a C# Win background so having a Rackspace Cloud VPN has been a big learning curve for me.

One of the things that is really pi$$ing me off due to the high number of emails I am getting to this account when in reality there should be hardly any. Is that I have an admin@domain.co.uk account and it is constantly flooded with emails with TO addresses like

dubruda@domain.com fax@domain.com tel@domain.com undisclosed-recipients:; (which in header has x-original-to: voice5@domain.com)

and they are all delivered to my abuse address for my host e.g

abuse-darkpolitricks.com@mydomain-server.co.uk

So as a total newbie when it comes to emails and the setting up and managing of them (all I know is how to send them! )

a) I don't really need this account anyway so how can I delete the whole email acccount b) If not how can I delete the whole contents of it c) how can I prevent this flood of spam going to my abuse account. On the same server I have a couple of other sites with admin@ addresses and they don't have the same problem. I don't publicize my email address which I guess is why they are going through the abuse journey to get to me.

Is there a way to stop this flood of people just making crap to addresses up and then sending them to any old bollox@domain.com address knowing my abuse setting will get them delivered to me?

Is there not a way of saying if the the email isn't a valid email then even if it's sent to abuse then it should be ignored and thrown away.

I have spam filters on my client and server but this one account is driving me crazy it literally should have 1/2 emails sent to it a week not hundreds.

So any tips on sorting this mess out (remembering I am a newbie with LINUX so don't go into VI PLEASE (J hate that program!!!!) ) would be much appreciated. I can run some commands on my console but VI is just a no no and I prefer to edit files AS files I can scroll up, see, edit without having to hit certain keys first and so on - e.g config files in Java apps!)

So any help sorting this out - and helping me delete this flood of spam and hopefully stopping people using the abuse route to get to me would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

If tons of mail is coming directly to you, dont publish your email address on blogs and you should Install spamassasin. Webmin has module for it.

If abuse emails are coming from your host, then it sounds like the email server is sending tons of mail and your host is receiving abuse complaints. You mail server should not send or relay mail for anyone but the local users. In postfix, general settings, look for "What domains to receive mail for". Should only list your domain name and the domain.local usually.

The emails are not abuse complaints they are all spam e.g

I am a prince from Nigeria can I send you millions of pounds

and blatant hack attempts e.g

Please review the attached invoice and pay this invoice at your earliest convenience. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

(wih zip / exe) file attached

Also fake emails from Banks trying to get my details etc.

My site doesn't actually send ANY emails out to anyone at all. No mailing lists no contact forms nothing. My email address is not even printed or found anywhere on my site.

They are all using TO addresses like

admninistrator@domain.com news@domain.com help@domain.com support@domain.com

Apparently when the person set this site up they set up a forwarding address so anything @domain.com when to me. They told me to remoe it but I am not sure where or how to do this

Thanks
