/tmp folder in Disk and Network Filesystems

/tmp folder in Disk and Network Filesystems

When I look in "Disk and Network Filesystems" i see folder /tmp using 74% used.. As it doesn't mention the percentage of what, I am guessing it uses 74% of the total disk space on the system. Correct?

being a /tmp folder, is it just holding temporary files? Is it some that can be "cleaned"? What is in there?
