Dovecot & Imap

It makes it very hard to go behind someone and fix there continue mistakes when the developers do not check there programs for bugs before releasing to the general public. Freeware is a nother matter and when you ask someone to pay for a program that has a lot of problems that is considered very annoying.

For example.

Running the current verson of your web panel on the current verson of Debian that is brand new install that was done less then 24 hours ago.

  1. Your web panel takes up to much of the cpu on a intel mother board that has two 1.4 ghz intel proccessors while the client using the web control panel account.

  2. Pop3 mail will not allow the client to poll or send mail from dovecot and imap. It keeps asking for the username and password and I am using the correct login information.

  3. Why is postfix holding the outgoing mail when the /etc/resolv.conf is configured correctly. I can do a dig -t mx domain-name and I get the mx recods for that domain.

As mentioned in another thread, this isn't a problem we can resolve without more details. It is, obviously, not normal for Virtualmin to use a huge amount of CPU, though there are aspects of the system that can be resource intensive.

<div class='quote'>2. Pop3 mail will not allow the client to poll or send mail from dovecot and imap. It keeps asking for the username and password and I am using the correct login information.</div>

Sounds like the installation didn't actually work correctly. There was a bug a week or so ago in the virtualmin-base package that led to no configuration being performed...it was in the repos for a day or so for CentOS and for two days or so for Debian. I posted information about re-installing virtualmin-base, as well as a complete description of the problem and how it occurred, in the News forum when these problems came to light.

<div class='quote'>3. Why is postfix holding the outgoing mail when the /etc/resolv.conf is configured correctly. I can do a dig -t mx domain-name and I get the mx recods for that domain.</div>

According to the logs you've posted, Postfix can't find the hostname. This has nothing to do with Virtualmin or its installation process, of course, and there's nothing we could possibly do to break or fix nameserver failures during installation, but I suspect a restart of Postfix will fix it for you.
