Usermin and mail problems after..

I was checking some apps last night and after this, both usermin and email have stopped working.

Here is what was changed:

[code:1] --------------------- dpkg status changes Begin ------------------------

Installed: amavisd-new 1:2.6.1.dfsg-1 chkrootkit 0.48-8 libarchive-zip-perl 1.18-1 libberkeleydb-perl 0.34-1+b1 libconvert-binhex-perl 1.119+pristine-3 libconvert-tnef-perl 0.17-8 libconvert-uulib-perl 1.11-1 libevtlog0 0.2.8~1-2 libglib2.0-0 2.16.6-1 libglib2.0-data 2.16.6-1 libio-multiplex-perl 1.09-2 libio-stringy-perl 2.110-4 libmime-tools-perl 5.427-1 libnet-cidr-perl 0.11-3 libnet-server-perl 0.97-1 libunix-syslog-perl 1.1-2 splunk 3.4.6-51113 syslog-ng 2.0.9-4.1 talk 0.17-13

Upgraded: syslog-ng 2.0.9-4.1 => 2.0.9-4.1

Removed: amavisd-new 1:2.6.1.dfsg-1 rsyslog 3.18.6-4 splunk 3.4.6-51113 syslog-ng 2.0.9-4.1 [/code:1]

After Eric helped me get the email working I was hoping t=not to hose it...

USermin says server times out.

I've checked that port 20000 is open in arno-iptables-firewall and webmin/virtualmin works fine on 10000.

As far as mail goes, I deleted and recreated a mail user and the email notification was successfully sent to my gmail address but connecting to the mail server from thunderbird times out as well.

Any thoughts on what I might have hosed on this one?

Well, I guess we need to figure out what specific components are broken.

While I could see Amavis causing some sort of issue, it certainly shouldn't prevent Usermin from loading.

So let's start with Usermin. Go ahead and try restarting it:

/etc/init.d/usermin restart

At that point, what does this show:

netstat -an | grep :20000

And then, are you able to connect to Usermin now?

Thanks Eric... Looks like the problem will go unknown... my server must have been having other issues because as of this morning, with zero changes at all (I have not even logged into it since I sent that post to forums) everything works OK.

Perhaps my hosting company was implementing a firewall or something that I don't know about.

Weirdness... Thanks for the reply!
