Easy Apache; alternatives to MySQL (eg MariaDB)
Posted 2011-12-27 16:56 by John_B
something like cPanel's Easy Apache, ie. a GUI for recompiling Apache and PHP. That means having a backed up set of compile flags for the user's last build of Apache and php. A suggested set of defaults.
Varnish integration
Posted 2011-12-27 16:49 by John_B
Would be good to see better Varnish integration.
- First priority, streamline process of running Apache on non-standard port.
- Maybe a Varnish UI. I have not tried the one by Unixy.
- Maybe an install script including a good general purpose .vcl (configuration file). Initially the vcl could be fairly limited.
Just having 1. would be great.
Use DKIM without needing Virtualmin's local DNS and Mail services.

I would be nice if you could enable/generate DKIM for Virtualmin domains without it being dependent on the internal DNS and Mail services.
I currently use both external DNS an Mail (Google Apps), but since there is still mail generated and shipped from my server, I would like to utilize the DKIM feature. Apparently with the BIND and User Mail modules disabled, DKIM fails... Ideally it should still allow you to generate DKIM for your domains, but alert the user that they will need to manually insert the records into their external DNS service.
Domain configuration at client level
Posted 2011-12-16 17:54 by cybuch
I think that's a big disadvantage for final clients (who usually has got poor knowledge), which can't simply add domains and manage them (like it's made in DA or CP). Could anyone fix it? Also, it would be nice to change users bandwidth quota from weekly to monthly ; ) //If I'm wrong at any point, please let me know ( ;
Update Virtualmin's system information

Hey, this is a very little modification, but I think that it would be helpful, if there was an uptime statistic in 'System' tab in System Information ; )

If a person would like to help editing the documentaton wiki, how would they go about doing so? I would like to contribute, but can't find a signup area.
Thanks.
Autodiscover
Posted 2011-07-21 15:45 by jkuo
Microsoft has been using "autodiscover" in their email clients to basically help end users autoconfigure their Outlook to connect to the corporate mail server.
The mechanism seems pretty simple. Outlook uses the user's email address to get the domain, like VIRTUALMIN.COM and performs a DNS lookup to a hostname of autodiscover.virtualmin.com. The client then makes a web service call for an XML file at autodiscover.virtualmin.com which lists out the mail server settings.
Outlook then configures to those settings and the user's email client is configured.

Hi guys In Webmin> Others> is a feature Upload and Download> which allows you to move files to and form the server which is quite useful. However when you try to upload a complete file and folder structure you are unable to using the webmin/virtualmin interface unless you zip/tar the files and folders first.
Virtualmin backup and restore - make more complete
Posted 2011-06-08 21:32 by sfatula
I'd like to make this the small version so no one misunderstands at all! So, not posting whys, when I do, people want to come up with all sorts of reasons why not to do this, and imagine all sorts of things I am not trying to ask for. The why is VERY simple - it makes your life easier. If anyone sees the wisdom of this - please post. Having been through more than 50 virtualmin installs, various situations, I certainly do! This was being discussed on some tickets, I'd rather open it up to more people. Esp newbies.
I would like to redefine virtualmin backups (and thus restores) scope.
Usermin email scheduler/reminder.
Posted 2011-04-05 23:41 by AllanIT
One feature that would be very useful to be added to usermin is the ability to be able to create an email and schedule it to be sent at a later time/s. On the Compose Email screen could be a new tab called Schedule with an option for Now (which would be the normal) or you could select date and times for the email to be sent. A new folder called scheduled could be created to keep all the scheduled emails in. Then at the scheduled date and time the server could send the email out for you and place a copy in the sent folder.
