Upgrading Debian Xen to squeeze !! MUST READ !!

Posted 2011-03-27 14:28 by sgrayban

First read http://wiki.debian.org/Xen#Upgrading.2BAC8-transition

If you don't understand it means that a lenny Dom0 CANNOT boot a squeeze instance because lenny Xen packages do not support the new Grub2.

Be very careful if you decide to do a simple upgrade on all lenny instances to squeeze.

Virtualization? Which OS to go with?

Posted 2012-02-02 06:09 by netizen

Hello,

Can someone help me on this? It relates to virtualmin + XEN + 32/64 bit CentOS.

I am new to virtualization. I want to order a CENTOS server so I can install a few smaller Centos virtual servers with virtualmin and another Centos for voip telephony. The virtualization I am planning to go with is XEN (opensource). The questions I have are:

a) Shall I request from the Data Center the main system to be Centos 5.7 64bit? Or 32 Bit? b) What about the virtualmin virtual server?

CPU Support?

Posted 2012-01-29 01:42 by netizen

Hello,

I am new to XEN and Cloudmin. I have successfully installed XEN open source and created manually a VM however then I decided to install Cloudmin GPL so I can manage them.

Cloudmin was installed OK and configured, apart from a small issue with perl described here ( http://www.virtualmin.com/node/20981 ).

When I installed Cloudmin I went to startup my 1st vm I got this error: .. failed : Using config file "/xen/pbx1.cfg". Error: HVM guest support is unavailable: is VT/AMD-V supported by your CPU and enabled in your BIOS?

Problems creating a new VM

Hello folks. I'm having a really annoying issue during VM creation.

I keep receiving an error during the second step. This is the complete creation log:

Copying 680.47 MB CD image to host system virtualbox.altfactor.lan ..
.. already on host

Creating virtual system with KVM ..
.. creation failed : Failed to create partition : WARNING: you are attempting to use parted to operate on (mkpartfs) a file system. parted's file system manipulation code is not as robust as what you'll find in dedicated, file-system-specific packages like e2fsprogs.

KVM - Virtual net Interfaces disabled after rebooting virtual machine

Posted 2012-01-05 11:19 by lucianogreiner

Hello.

I have a Cloudmin KVM installed and i am experiencing a recurrent with system's virtual network interfaces. When i do add virtual interface to a system using the Cloudmin UI, it seems to work fine, but after rebooting the virtual system it doesn't come back. Cloudmin states that it's not active.

I tried to configure the network manually using virtual system webmin to enforce that the virtual interfaces should be turned on during startup, but after a reboot it doesn't seem to have any effect. So all the times i need to go to cloudmin panel and re-add the virtual interface.
