attempted resinstall broke Virtualmin

I went for a reinstall contrary to the documentation which I had not read. "List virtual servers" command gives ".. your system is not ready for use by Virtualmin." Attempting to add localhost to DNS makes server hang, requiring reboot.

How can I repair this problem, and keep Virtualmin? Alternatively, can I remove Virtualmin without removing accounts and Webmin?

Howdy -- if any action in Virtualmin causes your system to hang, that may be a sign of a hardware problem of some sort... or possibly not having enough RAM.

You can always manually edit /etc/resolv.conf from the command line as root to add 127.0.0.1 to your list of nameservers. You want a line like this in there:

nameserver 127.0.0.1

If you'd like to talk the issue through more -- remember that the Support area here is for Virtualmin Pro customers. If you're using Virtualmin GPL, you'd want to ask your questions in the forums. We monitor those, along with lots of wonderful folks in the forums... thanks!

Thanks for that. I would not have posted if I spotted issue reporting is not for GPL. Website, like Virtualmin is less idiot-proof than cPanel... Will post a little feedback on early experiences to forum.
