Howdy -- was something with MySQL changed recently on your server?
For example, was it upgraded to a new version? We've sometimes seen that error after an attempt to upgrade MySQL to a version that doesn't normally come with CentOS.
Also, what does this command show:
rpm -qa | grep mysql-server
