removing virtualmin-base

I'm trying to uninstall modules that I don't use!

What happens if for dependencies I will remove virtualmin-base? I suppose it will change nothing, right?

We don't recommend removing virtualmin-base.

If there is anything installed that's a dependency of virtualmin-base that you don't need, our suggestion is to simply disable the service.

You can disable a service in Webmin -> System -> Bootup and Shutdown.

I expected you're going to say it! ;) could you please be kind and imagine what would happen if I manually remove virtualmin-base?

We still highly recommend keeping virtualmin-base installed.

After speaking with Jamie, neither of us are entirely certain of the consequences of removing it, or whether there might be future issues. That's because Virtualmin is designed to work with virtualmin-base installed.

That said, in theory, it should be possible to remove virtualmin-base. However, you'll likely run into dependency errors while doing that.

If you wish to try removing it, you can certainly do that, and it'll probably work, but that's not something we'll be able to support.

Please then help me to fix the following issue!

I'm using self-created repo for Apache httpd and everytime I enable virtualmin repo it OFFERS annoyingly to install older version of httpd from Virtualmin repo!

How to fix it and only update packages that concerns Virtualmin?

Thank you very much!

Ilia

We can offer some pointers, but you're setting some things up that we're not going to be able to support :-)

However, in the virtualmin.repo file in /etc/yum.repos.d/, you could try adding an "exclude" line in order to tell yum to exclude installing a particular package from that repository.

If you don't want the various httpd packages, then you could list those there.

You can run "man yum.conf" to read about how the "exclude" parameter works.

I think I will stick with this option, thanks!

Andrey, please understand, I prefer to edit my server's settings and options, manually. I find Virtualmin& Webmin is the best visualization tool despite the fact that it's also amazingly good in actually managing it! But doing things myself for me gives me more confidence in general as I exactly know what I'mm doing and what is happening. As the result I don't need the bunch of modules that go pre-installed and I want to see only features I use at the moment.

In addition, could you please be kind tell me how to control (disable/delete) the following: DomainKeys Identified Mail under Virtualmin -> Email Messages -> DomainKeys Identified Mail I mean that I could delete it brutally but I want to make it in proper way, that will be easy to fix, like installing a module.

I use opendkim and dkim-milter is not installed on CentOS by default by the way and its development has be abandoned year ago.

Sorry, there isn't a way to not display that option.

The DKIM support is built into Virtualmin, it's not a separate module.

At some point in the future, Virtualmin may support configuring OpenDKIM on CentOS, but as you saw it currently only supports dkim-milter.

Looking forward to see OpenDKIM module! Thanks, Andrey!
