Yum and RHEL (pre-sales question)

In a lot of your documentation I see the following

>>To update on Red Hat based systems: >>yum update wbm-virtualmin-svn wbm-virtualmin-dav

reading the FAQ and what Virtualmin installed by default, I did not see YUM listed.

On RHEL4 systems YUM is not installed, UP2DATE is the default.

Is YUM installed with Virtualmin, and if not, how do RHEL users update?

I use RHEL4 and VM pro, having previuosly used fedora.
The VM installer installs yum for you. You can then use "yum update" to update all virtualmin provided packages, and up2date to update from RHN.

Hey Jeff,

Chris is correct, but I wanted to explain <i>why</i> we install yum instead of using up2date (our policy is to use the native package management system whenever possible). up2date uses a repository format that just is not easy to replicate. There is an Open Source server called current, but the "register" aspect of up2date makes things utterly unworkable in our case, and current doesn't really support the kind of client tracking we need. up2date claims to support yum repos, but it doesn't support ours (because they use authentication). I filed a bug with Red Hat several months ago, but it remains open.

So, we use yum on RHEL.
