Unused module majordomo and phpmyadmin

Hi:

Was curious if its safe to install the majordomo lists feature in webmin area instead of the regular mailman lists that you can enable by default in virtualmin for a virtual server? Or is there a way to bring majordomo over to the virtualmin server so its an option? Also if I were to install phpmyadmin via the root command prompt so I would have one sole login to hopefully manage all in mysql, would it work seamlessley with any virtualdomains already installed over in virtualmin? I noticed each virtual server will let you put in an instance of phpmyadmin, but in my case all domains will be localhost logging into its own specific named db. Thanks.

Howdy,

I think so :-)

Those two shouldn't conflict in any way, and each works quite differently.

That said, I haven't tried installing Webmin before. And I haven't run across a Majordomo plugin for Virtualmin specifically.

Also if I were to install phpmyadmin via the root command prompt so I would have one sole login to hopefully manage all in mysql, would it work seamlessley with any virtualdomains already installed over in virtualmin?

All the users on your server can use on central phpMyAdmin installation in order to manage their databases.

My suggestion for doing that would be to create a new Virtual Server like "phpmyadmin.domain.com", setup phpMyAdmin in that domain using the Install Script, and then make sure your users all have a link to that domain.

Hi Eric:

Main reason to try majordomo as opposed to mailman is the URL it supplies to access a a list...its very indicative in its format that the server is runing virtualmin or webmin...and usually we rather not let that informaiton be known if possible. But anyway, I seem to be ok with the phpmyadmin installation for now, but your idea about its own host is good too. As for majordomo, it seems to install as a module ok in webmin, but appears as an unused module all the time. On a side note, I also noticed the interface screen went totally blue when I changed theme from the default to the older MSC linux theme....this was with Firefox. I was able to log in with another browser, and see the new theme...so I went back to the default.

That typically occurs when the dependencies for that module aren't installed. You'd want to make sure that Majordomo is installed on your server in order for Webmin's Majordomo module to function correctly.

I'd recommend sticking with the default Virtualmin Framed Theme -- it's the only one there that supports all the Virtualmin features.
