As Eric and I mentioned in the issue tracker entry you previously opened, we need more information about this. First step is to check the system logs at the time of email delivery attempt:

/var/log/syslog, /var/log/mail.log, /var/log/procmail.log

Also you need to tell us what Linux distro you are using and whether you installed the recommended way using the installer script. Please provide us with the information required, otherwise all we can do is guessing.

Howdy,

Yeah, we'd need to get some info about the email logs... those shouldn't be empty, in theory.

If you go to Webmin -> System. and click the log file named "/var/log/mail.log", do you see any log messages at the end of that file?

You should see new log messages show up there each time you attempt to send an email.

If not -- and the emails you're sending are being generated by a webpage on your server -- that may mean you need to review the Apache error log.

You can see the Apache error log in Virtualmin, by clicking Logs and Reports -> Apache Error Log.

Sprokkel, we asked you multiple times now for excerpts from the logfiles, and if you used the Virtualmin installer script. We'd like to help you, but we CANNOT do that without knowing EXACTLY what is going wrong. And for that, we need log excerpts! Please provide those if you'd like us to help you.

First of all, most importantly, I'm asking for like the fifth time now: Did you use the Virtualmin Installer Script to install your system, or did you configure stuff manually/did you use Linux packages for things like Postfix?

Then, please enclose all shell listings in

tags.

In the mail.log, I can see delivery attempts to several addresses @mail.wdds.nl, all of which failed because connect failed (there is no mail server listening on port 25 of the MX of that domain). Can't say much else; we need more info:

What EXACTLY are you trying? Sending email using what program from where to where, from which address to which address? What are your local domains? Etc. etc. Please give us as much information about your system as possible.

Hi Locutus,

i have Virtualmin Installer Script to install , and after i active some mods like postfix. i use Linux packages like Postfix internal i can read all the mail for accounts, but the problem is that mail will not send to?? example if i make a account for you you will never get the mail in your postbox whit login mail ftp ECT...( your@your..Dom ) mail will not send to you, onley can read on the sever ( usermail ) im only use virtualmin to create sub domains on wdds.nl to make it all clear, if your mail adress is xxx@gmail.com you will never receive the login information.

im real dont know how fix this, i can send you info so you can login and see for your self what can be the problem whit the mail function

Unfortunately I still don't really understand what the problem is exactly.

Can't your users retrieve mail from your server? Does it fail to send mail from your users to other outside mailservers?

Please try to describe precisely, step by step, what you are aiming to do, what you are trying, and what does not work as expected. Please provide all required information about your actual test, like usernames and email addresses involved, and log excerpts for the exact time that the attempt took place.

Hi, its a standard installation, after i have change nothing or configure the problem is !!! that the mail whit your new account whit login information, will not send to your mail account Locutus@dom . so it mean that you will never get the information for your new account hope its clear ,,

I'm sorry Sprokkel, but I cannot help you like this.

Repeatedly I asked you to tell me PRECISELY what you are trying, from what program you are sending mail from what user to what user, using which email addresses; to tell me what the local domains are, to give me a step-by-step list of things you want to accomplish, what you are trying, and what happens instead, all of that backed up by proper log excerpts!

For example, "I have installed Virtualmin using the script, on a clean Ubuntu 12.04 system. My hostname is XXX, my IP address NNN. I created a domain YYY. Now I'm trying to use Thunderbird to send an email from the local account XXX to the outside address XXX@YYY (or the other way round). But the mail never arrives, instead gets bounced to the sender, and the following lines are logged in /var/log/mail.log."

THAT would be a proper problem description! But you keep telling me the same basic stuff in barely understandable English, which does NOT help me understand your problem! So I'm unfortunately out of here, maybe Eric or someone else can help you further. I wish you good luck!

Locutus, Sorry my English is not good but im try to explane it. exact this is what happen...

For example, "I have installed Virtualmin using the script, on a clean Ubuntu 12.04 system. My hostname is XXX, my IP address NNN. I created a domain YYY for you on my server,, what happen next is that the server not send the account information to your email adres that you give me for registration. the registration information ( is still on your inbox account on the server. example, i have just create a new account youraccount.wdds.nl if i look in the mail box of the new account ( webmin, servers, read usermail) i can read all the new login information. so far so good, but it how you will login in your new account i create for you, coz you have not receive a mail whit your login information.

Can i send you a PV message so you can login on my server and look for your self what wrong i will be very happy if you will help me whit this

Yes, I can take a look at your system myself, but unfortunately I can't offer that for free. These things can take quite some time, and I need to make a living. ;)
