Restrict FTP Users to a Specific Directory?

Is this possible, and if so, how?

Googling has turned up results from 2009 and 2010 which no longer seem to apply.

Thanks in advance, Jay

Howdy,

Take a peek at Limits and Validation -> FTP Directory Restrictions, that screen allows you to restrict the directory for FTP users.

Hi Eric -

Thanks for the response. I don't see Limits and Validation anywhere under either Webmin or Virtualmin. Am I just missing it?

Thanks, Jay

Running Virtualmin 4.18, if that helps.

and Webmin 1.760

Hi Eric -

I spoke to my buddy who's doing the hosting for me and he says the FTP Directory Restrictions option is available only to the root user (and therefore not to me) and doesn't apply to individual accounts; only per domain as a whole.

I can't imagine that locking an FTP user to a specific directory should be so hard. I mean, this is a basic FTP feature. I've never not been able to do this on any of the other hosting platforms I've used.

Am I overlooking something obvious?

Thanks, Jay

Howdy,

Yes, that option is only available to the master admin (ie, root user).

It applies to a particular domain, rather than one specific user account.

Within a given domain (or for all domains if you choose), you can lock the domain's users into their homedir, or into another directory of your choosing.
