BIND DNS server ... the default master DNS server vtr01 is not a fully qualified domain name

Hello I have a VPS with Ubuntu 16.04 / PHP 7 on Sydney (Vultr), 2 GB ram. I install Webmin, manually some weeks ago (apt-get install was not possible at this time for Webmin on Ubuntu 16.04).

Some problem with hostname and DNS. When I check the configuration in Virtualmin :

Your system has 1.95 GB of memory, which is at or above the Virtualmin recommended minimum of 256 MB.

BIND DNS server is installed, and the system is configured to use it. However, the default master DNS server vtr01 is not a fully qualified domain name.

I know that the hostname was not FQDN. I change it in Webmin / Networking / Network configuration / Hostname and DNS client :

I replace hostname "vtr01" by "vtr01.mydomain.ovh" . So, now the hostname is a FQDN :

# hostname
vtr01.mydomain.ovh

But when I try to check the Virtualmin configuration, always the same error :

"However, the default master DNS server vtr01 is not a fully qualified domain name."

:o

Why ? Thanks for your help ;-) Didier

Go to Webmin -> Servers -> BIND DNS Server. Scroll to Existing DNS Zones and click on the zone for your hostname. Then click Edit Zone Parameters and make sure the field for Master server is set to your FQDN, with a period at the end. For example: ns1.example.com. I don't know if this is the particular cause of your issue but it's worth checking.

Hello Derstrom

In "Existing DNS Zones", I click on mydomain.ovh

In "Edit Zone Parameters", I have this :

Master Server : ns01.ourotherdomain.ovh.

So, it's the NS01 Domain name server FQDN... not the FQDN of the Web site ?

Is it correct ? Thanks. Nice WE. Didier
