Moving Server with Dedicated IP

I attempted to move a server with a dedicated IP and associated SSL Cert from one Virtualmin box to another. I backed up the old server, restored to the new server, disabled the old server, changed the IP on the new server through the change IP Address dialog to a dedicated address and external IP and I get this message: Failed to change IP address : The virtual interface IP address is already in use. There are no virtual interfaces listed in networking. Tried it on two different servers. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? J.

Howdy -- hmm, that's an odd one!

What output do you receive if you run the command "ifconfig"?

And what is the IP address in question that you are trying to set it to?

Also, is your server behind a NAT router, with an internal IP? Or is it directly on the Internet, with a public IP address?

The current and the new server are connected directly to the Internet with public IP numbers. They both have many domains which share an IP (one on each virtualmin host) and this one domain has an SSL cert attached to it so it has its own public IP. We are decommissioning the old server and so need to move the domain. In our last attempt we backed up then disabled the old server. We removed its IP from the old server, restored the domain to the new server, went to change IP and got that message.

I'll give it a go again next week and let you know. Thanks.

Okay, sounds good!

If you continue to run into troubles with that, let us know and we'll work with you to sort out what's going on there.

Knowing the actual IP that your trying to change it to, and the output of the command "/sbin/ifconfig", would assist us in troubleshooting. Thanks!
