Usermin not able to access email inbox

I am admin for a VirtualMin server. Server has been up since Feb. We recently had to disable IMAP as owner wanted to force our users to use POP to get mail. When we did this, USERMIN complained, but it was easily corrected by just loggin in.

2 weeks ago we had an issue with an iPhone so we re-enabled IMAP. No complaints form USermin users. This past weekend I applied Virtualmin udates. System appeared to be fine, users were getting emails etc.... USermin not tested after update, but WEbmin and Virtualmin seemed fine.

I am now getting reports that users cannot get email via USermin. I tried and there is an error. USer logs in and gets message login to POP server an gets error Connection Closed. However, I can see whats in my other folders, just not the inbox. Email is still being delivered and my outlook client and blackberry can still pop the server and retrieve email.

I have stop restarted usermin and the email servers, rebooted system and still same problem. I enabled imap, disabled imap and same problem.

When I login to usermin I still get error Connection closed after each of these changes.

When I select Manage Folders it shows my inbox as : Inbox on server localhost POP

where my other folders are all
/home//homes//Maildir/.sentmail Directory

I also tested by adding a new user to an account and the same behaviour still persists.

Any help would be greatly appreciaiated.

Can you clarify what version of Webmin, Virtualmin, and Usermin you're using?

Also, do you see any problems showing up in the mail logs? That would be either /var/log/mail.log, or /var/log/maillog, depending on your distro.

I was logging in locally . Mo error messages that appear to indicate a problem, but it shows that its disconnected right after logging trying to see inbox. Could it be a problem with how the inbox is configured? - Could it have been result of doing update this past weekend? As far as I know, no settings have changed .

Hello.... I guess no one is listening... What options do I have here? This is a registered install of Virtualmin. Must I Just reinstall Virtualmin? What about all my existing domains and email accounts, web sites etc... I have several frustratedusers who rely on webmail.

Is there a better webmailto use instead of usermin?

while I dont directly see what could be wrong, for one thing, do not just reinstall virtualmin! Unless you reinstall the OS first..

so everything is working except you get logged out of Usermin immediately.. Do you have some auto logout time set in Usermin configuration? Just a thought.

Any reason for not upgradng to centos 5.3?

Thanks

Look in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf, and find where "mail_location" is set.

Comment the current value out, and add this in it's place:

mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir

Save the file, then restart Dovecot:

/etc/init.d/dovecot restart

Hi there,

I just wanted to point out that this problem is still here for me. I installed Virtualmin 3.73 GPL on a fresh CentOS 5.3 install and got this same error.

I especially wanted to mention that the fix andreychek posted fixes the problem!!!

I know this thread is old now but I wanted to say that I upgraded from Debian Squeeze to Wheezy and for some reason it blew up my dovecot.conf. When users signed into usermin, there was no mail even though when I went to read user's mail in Virtualmin, I could see there was mail there. Adding: mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir to /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf and restarting Dovecot worked like a charm.

Thank you Eric.

I have the same issue but my dovecot.conf doesn't say anything about mail location. that info is in my 10-mail.conf file.

Had the same problem after an upgrade of Debian OS.

Changing the mail_location to mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir fixed the problem!

Thanks Eric!
