Virtualmin Install Disappears - get a "Cannot connect to server" error

Hey, this isn't the first itme this has happened to me. Whilst using virtualmin to do anything (I was editing the BIND configuration in webmin this time around) I get a "Cannot connect to server" error in Firefox (and its equivalent in other browsers) after some time. I cannot access virtualmin after this and the only way I have been able to fix this up until now is by reloading my OS and starting from scratch.

Has anybody else experienced this before and does anybody know why this happens or how I can fix it?

Cheers!

The thing to do in cases like that would be to find a way to get onto the command line -- whether via SSH, or going to the console of your server -- and then reviewing the logs, the dmesg output, verify that your network interfaces are online, and the like.

Servers don't typically just stop working, and certainly not to the point of requiring an OS re-install. What you're seeing is most likely solvable if you're able to get in there and dig into the symptoms.

Hey thanks for the reply. I checked out the logs, nothing strange comes up. The weirdest thing is only the virtualmin location seemed to be affected, the rest of the server acted like normal. I just went back to it (via https) and it works again.... which is really weird since all I did was go out to lunch with the family. Oh well.

Do you see anything in the Webmin error logs -- in /var/webmin/miniserv.error?

Also, does it help to restart Webmin, using: /etc/init.d/webmin restart

Hi, Andrey - Same problem here. There seem to be lots of SSL errors in my miniserv.error file, but the most recent errors are these:

Failed to bind to port 10000 : Address already in use
Could not listen on any ports at /usr/share/webmin/miniserv.pl line 456.
Failed to bind to port 10000 : Address already in use
Could not listen on any ports at /usr/share/webmin/miniserv.pl line 456.

Could that be my problem? Thanks, Andrew
