Hi.

I am in urgent need of the following. My Servers use PostFix. Great. I need to have my mail users on my server to be able to use my server as the smtp. ie. both the POP3 & SMTP in Outlook must point to my server, and it must then send the mail (Both on the local network, as well as from the outside in eg laptops and remote offices) . This will ensure that my users don't get "relay access denied" type errors when sending from diffirrent locations. Currently my server does not even send mail out from within the same server, but from one domain to another domain on the same server. I do have POP BEFORE SMTP installed as a "safety" mechanism, but still ot able to use my server as a proper SMTP server. If at all possible, I would like it to be an "authenticated" process, ie "My outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication"

Once done, will I be able to see a log of all the mails received for "sending", sorted by domain / user etc.

I need to know EXACTLY what changes to make where..................

Your urgent request in this matter would be appreciated.

Sure -- you should actually be able to do that already.

In Outlook, you should be able to enable "My outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication", and that should cause it to authenticate, allowing your users to relay email through your server.

If you're getting timeouts when trying that, go into Outlook and try changing the SMTP port from 25 to 465, and have Outlook use SSL when doing the authentication.

You shouldn't need POP Before SMTP -- simply enabling authentication in the email client should handle all of that for you.

If you have trouble with that, let us know what isn't working and what symptoms you're seeing, and we'll figure out what's not working right.

You seem to have understood my request incorrectly..... I know how to do this in OUTLOOK, It is the settings / changes to Webmin / Virtualmin that I need help with. Which settings changes / updates in which modules. I URGENTLY need help with this

Well, as I mentioned, the setup you're asking about should work if it's enabled in Outlook.

If it's not, we'll need more details about what isn't working.

Let us know what isn't working specifically, and what symptoms you're seeing (including any errors that Outlook is generating).

You'll also want to look in the mail log (typically /var/log/maillog or /var/log/mail.log) to see if any errors are occurring while attempting to authenticate.

what module in webmin / virtualmin would be setup / configured to be able to send mail out (to be a fully working smtp server), and which settings / changes need to be done to setup the authentication username & password in webmin / virtualmin to authenticate with in outlook.........

Your server should work properly as a "fully working SMTP server" upon installation of Virtualmin.

If that's not the case, I'm happy to help, but I'll need details about the problem in order to be of assistance.

There's several possible trouble-spots that we may need to look at, and it's difficult to know which without further information about the problem.

In order to be able to help, what I need is:

  1. The symptoms of the problem -- what do you see when it's not working? If Outlook is generating an error message, I'll need to know what the error message is.

  2. The log messages in your email log around the time of the problem. The email log is typically in /var/log/mail.log or /var/log/maillog. Feel free to just paste in a bunch of them, or attach part of the log as an attachment to this request.

Thanks!
