clamav virus scanning: Ubuntu upgrade issues and a solution

Hi all,

my Ubuntu Hardy system gave me a new version of clamav-daemon lately:

  • clamav-daemon 0.96~rc1+dfsg-0ubuntu1~hardy1~ppa3
  • clamav-base 0.96~rc1+dfsg-0ubuntu1~hardy1~ppa3

After upgrading, the daemon refused to start.

ERROR: Unknown group false

Some debugging revealed a misconfigured option in /etc/clamav/clamd.conf

LocalSocketGroup false

Make that "LocalSocketGroup clamav" and you're done. Not sure if the change persists after you'd run "dpkg-reconfigure clamav-base" though. HTH,
