How does a user change the "real name" displayed when sending mails in Usermin?

Howdy,

I'm not sure how an email-only user could do this.

However, the admin for the Virtual Server could modify it by changing the "Real Name" field, which you can see by logging into Virtualmin, and going into Edit Mail and FTP Users.

This solution only works for created accounts, not for the virtual server administration user. Something as basic as the "From" name when sending e-mails should be easily edited by the user.

For the admin account for the Virtual Server, you can go into Edit Virtual Server -> Configurable settings, and change the "Description" field. I believe that alters the name used in the From address.

Thanks for your reply Eric. However that looks like something only root can do and not the individual users. It really shouldn't be so difficult to change something so basic as this in my opinion and it should be independent of the site description since they are quite different things. I would love to see this feature in upcoming releases.

there is a "Include real name in From: address? Yes No" in the preferences of Usermin.
Then when creating the mailbox, enter the name to be used in the Real Name field. Or edit it, as the virtual server owner can do this themselves.
Root is not needed.

"there is a "Include real name in From: address? Yes No" in the preferences of Usermin."
I see it in the documentation when doing a search in Usermin, but it's not there for me in any of the 7 sections of the preferences.

"... when creating the mailbox... "
I mentioned this is for the virtual server administration user, not a created account. The same option should be available for the default admin account as well as created accounts.

the virtual server administrator can do it and he can give access to webmin to other users with modules I believe. Then a user can change its real name in webmin (I havent tested)

see attachment for the option in preferences in Usermin for a user.

to be exact: you have to give the virtual server admin the allowed feature to let him Edit his virtual server.
then this admin can change the description of the server which in turn will be the from to name.

Hi Ronald,

Thanks for the reply. I found the section in the preferences to include the real name in From address. I don't know why I didn't see that there before. However, all this does is changes it to have only the e-mail address, so it doesn't really solve my problem.

"to be exact: you have to give the virtual server admin the allowed feature to let him Edit his virtual server"
How do I do that? This sounds like what I'm looking for.

OK, I found it under Administration Options > Edit Owner Limits > Allowed capabilities and features

Thanks for your help.

Good.
Now the description of the virtual server will be the Real Name it sends From..and the servers admin can add/change it to his liking.
cheers
