About Virtual Server Replication

Hi Everyone,

I'm configuring a solution of two server with replication each hour. I just want to know if the "Virtual server replication" will make a diff replication when i select the "Home Directory". Because the Home directory of our main website have 5GB in data.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it uses the Virtualmin backup feature, which is not a diff. So, backing up hourly would be pretty darned heavy. But, I'm not actually familiar with that aspect of the code.

Better replication and automation of failover is currently in development, however, so things will be quite a bit better in the next few revisions.

Sorry for resurrecting such an old post, but wondered if this has changed in the past 6 years!

Does Cloudmin now perform a full backup and restore for replication, or will it only copy changed files/database?

My situation is slightly different... I want to move 80 websites/20 Gbs to a new server, and trying to find the quickest method because once I start a backup, if data changes on the websites it wont be on the new system. Due to having so many sites and large amount of data, the backup and restore is taking ages, so data changes are likely.

But I would love it if I replicate a server, and then the next time it only copies changed files, then I am hoping the second and subsequent replications will be quick, and therefore reduce the likelihood of website changes being made after the backup starts.

Thanks

I'll answer my own question and say that it still does a backup and restore, because I just tried it.
