Can not install Virtualmin

Hi When I execute the install.sh I got it starts to get some packages using yum and then it fails with the following error message :

httpd-devel-2.2.3-31.el5.centos.4.i386 from installed has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: httpd = 2.2.3-31.el5.centos.4 is needed by package httpd-devel-2.2.3-31.el5.centos.4.i386 (installed) You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: package-cleanup --problems package-cleanup --dupes rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

FATAL - Fatal Error Occurred: Something went wrong during installation: 0 FATAL - Cannot continue installation. FATAL - Attempting to remove virtualmin repository configuration, so the installation can be FATAL - re-attempted after any problems have been resolved. warning: /etc/yum.repos.d/virtualmin.repo saved as /etc/yum.repos.d/virtualmin.repo.rpmsave FATAL - Removing temporary directory and files. FATAL - If you are unsure of what went wrong, you may wish to review the log FATAL - in /root/virtualmin-install.log

However, I am using a 64bit system so why is Virtualmin trying to install the 32bit version, adding to that I have the 64bit httpd binary installed.

It's possible that's a bug in the package or install script that needs reviewed -- there's two things to try first though.

First, if you run a "yum clean all" on your server as root, and then re-attempt the installation, does that by chance resolve the issue?

If the above doesn't help -- what is the output of this command:

rpm -qa | grep http

Thanks!

Welcome to the Virtualmin Professional installer, version 1.0.4

WARNING:

The installation is quite stable and functional when run on a freshly installed supported Operating System, but upgrades from existing .wbm- based systems, or systems that already have Apache VirtualHost directives or mail users, will very likely run into numerous problems. Please read the Virtualmin Administrators Guide before proceeding if your system is not a freshly installed and supported OS.

This script is not intended to update your system! It should only be
used to install Virtualmin, on a supported OS. If you have previously installed Virtualmin via this script or the GPL version of this script, upgrades and updates should be handled within Virtualmin itself. Once Virtualmin is installed, you never need to run this script again.

The systems currently supported by install.sh are: Fedora Core 10-11 on i386 and x86_64 CentOS and RHEL 3-5 on i386 and x86_64 OpenSUSE 10.0 on i586 and x86_64 Debian 4.0 and 5.0 on i386 and amd64 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and 10.04 LTS on i386 and amd64 FreeBSD 7.0 and 7.1 on i386 and amd64

If your OS is not listed above, this script will fail. More details about the systems supported by the script can be found here:

Hmm -- could I by chance log into your system and take a look?

If it's okay with you, what I'd like to do is work out whatever bugs are there and get Virtualmin installed on your server.

If that's okay -- what I'd need are root login details for your system. You can email those to eric@virtualmin.com.

Thanks!

Hi The server is a non persistent aws instance for the time being, so any changes you might make will be removed after a reboot

Server 50.16.230.12 User support Pwd virtualmin

You can ignore the instance failed to initialize message.

Please use sudo for administrative purposes.

Howdy -- when running "rpm -qa | grep http", a number of existing httpd packages show up, including an i386 based package.

That package appeared to be causing the trouble -- the installer was indeed trying to bring in the correct 64bit packages, but the existence of that 32bit package was preventing it from working properly.

What I did is remove the errant package that was installed. After removing it, the install script ran cleanly, and Virtualmin is setup on your server now.

If you have any questions, feel free to let us know!

Hi Thanks for the thumbs up, stupid me for overlooking that. But it is the simplest things that are overlooked :). As for installation is there anyway to automate it to not prompt for for Y/N at the start of installation ? Thanks

Yes, you can use the "-f" option to force install without confirmation.

Note that you cannot bypass the hostname check, and installation will wait for a hostname, even in no-confirm mode...without a fully qualified domain name, the resulting install will be broken in many ways, so it won't even try to install without one. You can include a hostname on the command line, though, with the --hostname option.

Welcome to the Virtualmin GPL installer, version 1.1.4

WARNING:

The installation is quite stable and functional when run on a freshly installed supported Operating System.

If you have existing websites, email users, or if you manually installed Virtualmin via a Webmin 'wbm' module, you are likely to run into problems. Please read the Virtualmin Administrators Guide before proceeding if your system is not a freshly installed and supported OS.

This script is not intended to update your system! It should only be used to perform your initial Virtualmin installation. If you have previously run the Virtualmin installer, you can perform upgrades and updates from within Virtualmin itself, or using your system's package manager. Once Virtualmin is installed, you never need to run this script again.

The systems currently supported by install.sh are: CentOS/RHEL/Scientific Linux 7 on x86_64 CentOS and RHEL 5-6 on i386 and x86_64 Scientific Linux 6 on i386 and x86_64 Debian 6, 7, and 8 on i386 and amd64 Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 14.04, and 16.04 LTS on i386 and amd64 FreeBSD 7.0 and 8 on i386 and amd64

If your OS is not listed above, this script will fail. More details about the systems supported by the script can be found here:

Howdy -- My suggestion would be to try the install again -- and if you have the same problem, ensure that /tmp is writable, and that you have plenty of space on all your partitions. Also make sure that you have plenty of RAM... I saw that your Forum post mentions that it's a 512MB VPS... you may want to ensure that you have swap space, as that's not a lot for a 64 bit distro.

One other thought would be to try manually downloading virtualmin-base, and trying to install that using dpkg on the command line to see what exact error is being generated.

It looks like you're using Virtualmin GPL there though... the area here is for folks using Virtualmin Pro. I see you posted your issue in the Forums -- your post here is the best place to receive support:

@andreychek we've tried the install no less than twenty times over the last year - EVERY TIME this miniserv.pl goes to 100% when webmin services are running

/tmp is writable during the install but not afterward

I believe we have enough space on all your partitions and plenty of RAM...

One thing I haven't tried is manually downloading virtualmin-base, and trying to install that using dpkg on the command line to see what exact error is being generated.

I purchase VirtualMin Pro - and have installed that three times so I think I'm in the right area.
