Boot from CD

Hi,

The more I play with Cloudmin KVM the more I like it (both Cloudmin and KVM :> ). Could we have such an option as to boot the virtual machine from "CD" (aka an iso file from a predefined iso files directory)? This could help install Windows guests and also boot existing linux/bsd guests from rescue CDs.

That already exists actually - just click on Create KVM Instance, select the "Empty System" tab, and enter the path to the ISO in the "Installation CD image" field.

Oh, that's right. Great, thanks!

PS: Cloudmin needs a nicer, more practical, simpler theme. I think this is the biggest problem with wider *min adoption...

I agree with Lucian on this. CloudMin is aimed too much at rocket scientists. If you look at how VMWare, OnApp, Virtuzzo, etc manages it's layout you'll see what I mean.

The amount of support issues we have due to the confusing layout is astonishing and often drives away less technical clients.

Also, where do I put the ISO images, or tell CloudMin to use them?

SoftDux,

You can put the ISOs anywhere, but indicate the path to Cloudmin, e.g. /home/iso-images/Centos6-blah.iso
Ideally we should have a "Browse" button for the iso images dir as the users have no idea which is the path or what files are available...

The problem with having a browse button is that you don't know when on the creation form which host system the vm will be created, so it isn't possible to know which filesystem to browse..

A better method is to add your cd image at Cloudmin Settings - New System Images, via the "Add image" link. Then it will appear as an option for the cd on the creation form, and get copied to the correct host automatically.
