Bulk creation of virtual server

Hello,

Is there a way to bulk create virtual servers based on a certain template?

Hi Andy -- take a look at Add Servers -> Bulk Create Servers, that offers a way to create Virtual Servers from a template.

Thank you very much Andrey. I sincerely appreciate it.

I wonder if there's a way to bulk modify the servers. Let say a batch was created with a certain IP address. Then later on we need to change that IP address to something else. It would be helpful to be able to make a bulk update to those intended servers with the new IP address.

I also contain ability to create only the Master DNS. Is there a way to also include the slaves DNS?

Hi Andrey,

Thanks very much. But I still don't see a way to bulk update the IP address to all the servers of my choosing. The method you've suggested only applies to a single server. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Andy

Hmm... can you describe the setup you have there, and what it is you're looking to do exactly?

1) Setup 100 servers with shared IP address of 192.168.15.2 2) Later, need to update these 100 servers IP address to 192.168.15.10

While we are on this topic, another related question.

1) DNS zones were created for these 100 servers. 2) These servers are using shared IP so therefore carry an A record in the DNS server (192.168.15.2). Need to go back and bulk change the A record to point to the new IP address (192.168.15.10).

What's the bulk and easiest method to accomplish these task?

Hmm, I'm confused about something, I'm trying to figure out what :-)

You had mentioned this --

The method you've suggested only applies to a single server.

I wanted to clarify that the "Change IP Address" function I mentioned can change the IP address for all Virtual Servers being hosted on your server (or at least, the ones you tell it to update).

So when you go into "Change IP Addresses", where it says "Servers to update" -- it defaults to "All Servers".

Or, if you prefer to choose some specific Virtual Servers, you can choose one or more from the list.

Does that by chance answer your question, or isn't that what you mean?

Hi Andrey,

Thanks. That's exactly what I need. Sorry I was clicking on "SERVER-CHANGE IP ADDRESS" and hence the reason why I thought it was for a single server. Sorry about that.

Under "Change IP Addresses", it would also be nice to be able to enter the IP address and virtualmin know exactly which servers to make the changes to (based on all the servers using such IP). This would save the task of selecting hundreds of servers manually. Of course, having the option to select the servers would always be optional.

Thanks again for your help.

Yup, that's how it works :-)

You only need to specify a Virtual Server if you don't wish to have all the domains with that IP updated.

Hi Andrey,

Thanks very much. I guess it was confusing with the "All servers" because it really listed all the servers, including the one without such IP. However, I did what you suggested and it works like a charm. Wow, the folks at Virtualmin really did thought of everything. It is the best control panel, hands down.
