Hallo guys , I just install the virtualmin on my machine ...everythink whent well but at the end I get this error about the Memory ..

Your system has 2 GB of memory, which is at or above the Virtualmin recommended minimum of 256 MB.

So I check out the machine memory and I found this output:

vmstat procs -----------memory---------- ---swap-- -----io---- --system-- -----cpu------ r b swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id wa st 0 0 44 1049412 57912 465960 0 0 2123 248 106 157 4 2 89 5 0

free -m

total used free shared buffers cached

Mem: 2048 1022 1025 0 55 455 -/+ buffers/cache: 511 1536 Swap: 4102 0 4102

SO let me ask you ...is the Worning correct or I just miss up somethinG???

Please advice thank you

I saw a message like that during install. Is Virtualmin working? I guess if it is, you have no problem!

I think it is fine, the message seems to be telling you there is enough memory. When you create a virtual server, you might create a static web page e.g. in /home/[domain]/public_html

touch index.html echo "hello" > index.html

And go look at the URL to see whether your page is showing...

If it is, I guess Virtualmin has done that part of its job!

Obviously before you see your new site on the Internet you will have to point a nameserver at your IP (or run your own nameserver on Virtualmin), and tell the registrar the name of that nameserver. But probably you have done that...

Check your ftp server is running and you have set up a user for the ftp account.

I do not use ftp for security reasons. You can also upload via Webmin > Others > Upload and Download.

I found that the upload and download feature was enabled by Virtualmin by default for root but had to be enabled per account for other users.

Surely you can leave the user with access to awstats (if appropriate) and add the path to other directories to which this user should have access? I guess in virtualmin you add the path in the left hand box, then click the arrow to transfer to the right hand box if you want to give the new user access to that path.

Just to test ftp you might do Webmin > Servers > ProFTPD > Authentification and select Allow access by root. Then log in to ftp as root.

Of course this is a security risk but ok to use when testing IMO.

Howdy,

This message:

That's just a notice regarding the memory you have in your system. It's saying the Virtualmin minimum is 256MB, but you have 2GB.

So, you have plenty of memory, there's no problem there!

Just to test ftp you might click

Webmin > Servers > ProFTPD > Authentification and select Login by root. Click Save.

Check top right corner of same page. If it says Stop Proftpd you know it is running. If it is not running it says Start Proftpd.

Then connect to the server with filezilla and log in with username root@mydomain.com (whatever your domain is) and your root password. If it works, disable login by root, you have now tested it, and create a username.

Frankly Virtualmin GPL is not suited for you if you are relative new to this stuff. Maybe get Virtualmin Pro and use their support system, it will probably save you the cost many times over in time not wasted. I used cPanel for a long time before I discovered Virtualmin, the cPanel licence fee is high but I found it saved me so much time that it was worth it.
