Backup & reinstall the system

I have Virtualmin running on a 512MB virtual server running 64bit Debian 6.0. In fact, I should have installed 32bit Debian, to reduce memory consumption.

I've now got Virtualmin and 12 domains running. Would like to back up the whole caboodle, install a 32bit system, then reinstall Virtualmin and all the domains.

Could anyone suggest the very easiest, no-hassle way to do this?

Howdy,

You could always generate a set of backups from within Virtualmin, and then restore those backups onto the 32 bit system.

According to some speed comparison charts I saw a while ago (cant remember where unfortunately) the 64 bit version had a significantly better performance than the 32 bit.

So before you reinstall, you might want to google for this topic and maybe confirm it.

Howdy,

The 64bit systems are indeed faster... but since they also use roughly twice as much RAM, we don't recommend using a 64bit system unless the server has more than 2-3GB of RAM.

Since 512MB of RAM is already somewhat constrained on a 32bit system, we'd suggest avoiding a 64bit OS with that little amount of RAM.
