Simple Configuration of Postfix to work with SquirrelMail or Roundclub

Hi all,

I am not very tech person, and have trouble with Linux VPS server. I would like to configure a simple mail server using Postfix which was installed by default in Virtualmin together with SquirrelMail? I have installed SquirelMail which is available in Virtualmin; both Postfix and SquirrelMail seem to be installed correctly, but I know that there must be some changeds made to their configurations before they can be integrated and work flawlessly.

Could you please help with this?

Many thanks in advance.

Mmh, maybe you could state explicitly what isn't working with your SquirrelMail installation? Otherwise it's a bit hard to give a hint aside from pointing you to the installation documentation :)

What's the output of http://your-domain.example.com/squirrelmail/src/configtest.php?

Also, if I may make a suggestion, I personally prefer RoundCube as a webmailer. It has a much nicer look and better usability than Squirrel.

Hi Locutus,

Thank you for your reply.

I have been stuck with Linux VPS server for over the last two weeks as I have no clue of what I have been doing.

However, I managed to install applications on CentOs 6 64bit in the following orders:

  1. Webmin - to get fully qualified domain name (FQDN) required by Virtualmin (I might be wrong though): I then set up Domain Zone with A-record and NS Records
  2. Virtualmin - I installed Virtualmin because I have struggled to get my website displayed after setting up DSN in Webmin
  3. I then delete all settings in Webmin, and create a new virtual server in Virtualmin which automatically create DNS setting and my website is displayed straight away
  4. Postfix and Dovecot come as default with Virtualmin, so all I need to do is just install scripts for Squirrelmail and Roundcub

After I have done all the above steps, my mail system (postfix, dovecot, squirrelmail and Virtualmin i used to create email accounts) works perfectly without configuring postfix/dovecot/squirrelmail; I mean I can send and receive or forward emails i want.

However, I face a major issue with the above system when i try to set up Ms Outlook to be used for sending and receiving - it is External SMTP Authentication problem.

Because of that I went on searching on the Internet for guidance, and found a quite detailed step by step instruction here:

http://blackonsole.org/centos-6-postfix-and-dovecot/

By following the above guidance, my postfix no longer works; and i cannot still set up Ms Outlook to send/receive email either?

I have been frustrated with Linux which I have been very new to for only two weeks.

I very appreciate your kind help. If you can, please provide a link or instruction: what I should install first in the order as there are many confusing tips on the Internet and most of them seem not work, I guess!

many thanks in advance

Cheers
