Access to "Services -> Configure Website" or resellers

Hi,

I''m working with my first prospective reseller, and we're just getting used to what options are accessible to him, vs. those for the server admin and the domain admin, He is looking at migrating multiple domains from an old IIS server, and needs to tweak DirectoryIndex etc. per domain as he works.

As the server administrator, I have access (under services) to the "Configure Website" tools, as does the sever owner - but the reseller does not. Is there a way to enable this, so that he does not have to log in as each individual client to tweak each domain?

I know he can switch to the server's admin from the admin menu, but I want him to feel comfortable with a consistent user interface - plus I don't see a simple way for him to switch back to the reseller account without logging out...

Howdy -- I spoke with Jamie a bit about the issues you mentioned.

The bad news is that there isn't going to be a way, anytime soon, for resellers to use the "Configure Website" option. There are some tricky issues that prevent that from working for resellers.

Also, regarding the "Switch to Server's Admin" feature -- when using that, you do effectively become that user, including a complete change of the session cookie and session id. Those are all security features, to make sure no one is able to gain access to things they don't have rights to use.

The problem though is that it's not possible to switch back, without logging out and back in.

Regarding the services available to the Reseller -- although "Configure Website" isn't going to work for the time being, Jamie did some work just now in order to make some additional Services available to Resellers. That feature will be available in the next Virtualmin version.

Hi,

OK, got it.

Understand why no easy switch back to reseller, now you point out the logic.

As long as I can explain what he should expect, I'm happy - I was as much concerned that I was missing something as anything else.

Given that the facilities offered under the admin account are a sub-set of the domain owner's, I'm going to suggest that he bases his workflow around switching to the domain user account.
