It would be nice to be able to manually execute a scheduled backup like you can do with "Run Now" for the scheduled cron jobs.

Howdy -- there actually is a way to do that.
If you go into Backup and Restore -> Scheduled Backups, and you click the link named "Backup" on the right, next to the Scheduled Backup you want to run, you'll then see a screen of options related to the backup.
At the very bottom will be two options, "Backup now" and "Backup in Background", each of which can be used to manually run the backup.

Ah, great. Thanks! I guess I assumed it would be with the rest of the options at the bottom when viewing an individual scheduled backup plan.
