Webmin upgrade icon missing

I install webmin/virtualmin with install.sh script. When I look at usermin->configuration there is an upgrade icon, but when I look at webmin->configuration there is no upgrade icon. However, the page http://doxfer.webmin.com/Webmin/WebminConfiguration shows the webmin configuration screen with an upgrade icon similar to the usermin configuration screen, so it is missing.

I reported this as a webmin bug and got the answer "If you installed Virtualmin, this is expected. When a new version of Webmin or Usermin is available to Virtualmin users, you will see a notification on the system information page after logging into Virtualmin."

I have seen virtualmin upgrade webmin to 1.701 from the 1.700 I installed but it didn't upgrade usermin automatically at least after I ran install.sh, then I upgraded webmin manually and usermin by clicking the arrow.

Either way it is not consistent. If there is a reason to remove the webmin upgrade icon then this should be in the documentation or better still leave the icon in place but link it to info saying upgrades are done (and must be done?) automatically.

Or is it just a bug and the icon should be there?

Howdy -- I spoke to Jamie regarding the issue you brought up.

When Virtualmin is installed, it does indeed remove the "Upgrade Webmin" option in "Webmin Configuration", so that all upgrades come from the Virtualmin repository.

You're right that the way Usermin handles this is not consistent. In the next version, the "Usermin Configuration" screen will also not show an "Upgrade Usermin" option.

If Virtualmin was installed using the install.sh script, the best way to perform package updates is either using the "Virtualmin Package Updates" screen in Virtualmin, or by running "apt-get upgrade" on the command line.

There can be a delay before new Webmin and Usermin versions are pushed into the Virtualmin repository, however, once they're in there they should show up as available package updates.

Hmm, OK but I think some where you need to point out that virtualmin update also handles webmin and usermin updates.

If I install webmin/virtualmin using the script as I did yesterday it said everything was up to date. This was on a fresh system that I had before the install run apt-get upgrade etc. so that everything was up to date. However, if I then clicked the upgrade usermin in usermin configuration that did do an upgrade.

I guess this means that your usermin repository is not up to date?

There is usually a delay between when new Webmin and Usermin software is released, and when it's available in the Virtualmin repository. It will show up there shortly though.
