Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-i386/Packages'

Hello

First time on the forum.

Just tried running apt-get update and received the following error:

W: Failed to fetch http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/ubuntu/dists/virtualmin-universal/Rel... Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-i386/Packages' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS

Thanks for your input.

Howdy,

Sorry, Joe is doing some work on the repository to fix some issues, and inadvertently generated a new issue :-)

He knows about that, and is working to fix it. Thanks for letting us know!

Any update on this? I'm trying to do a new install and it is stopping me.

Many thanks

Very sorry! I've asked Joe to speed up the fix on this.

In a pinch, and if you have enough RAM, you could do a 64 bit install... the 64 bit repo should be unaffected.

But this should be up and running soon!

No worries.

It was the 64 bit version I was trying.

Adding [arch=amd64] to the sources list fixes it, but the installers overwrites this change :(

Hrm, that's odd, as we weren't seeing that issue on 64 bit in our testing.

However, Joe just redid all the repository metadata -- can you try it again? (assuming you haven't already gotten things installed using the workaround you mentioned)

I'm now able to check for updates as normal. I have a 64-bit system too, btw.
Ubuntu Linux 14.04.1 Webmin version 1.791 Virtualmin version 5.02.gpl Kernel and CPU Linux 3.13.0-85-generic on x86_64

Interesting that though the error message was about a file not being received, I found I could get it in browser and wget it just fine. Though it did not contain the phrase it was looking for.

Excellent, glad to hear it's working now!
