Debian 8 & PHP 5+7, default PHP Version

Hello,

I'm replacing my old debian server and as Virtualmin served me well over the last 8 years, my new setup is also managed with Virtualmin.

I decided to go with nginx this time and installed it in the following order:

  • Virtualmin (via install.sh with all requirements, which means Apache2 and PHP 5, etc.)
  • nginx
  • PHP7 via dotdeb.org packages

In the meanwhile apache was also removed as it is not used anymore.

Regarding to https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/web/nginx the highest available PHP version should be used by nginx. But every time I create a new virtual server the default is PHP 5 instead.

I can change it within /etc/init.d/ php-fcgi- by replacing the path, but I would like to set a standard for new servers as I need to set up a few more.

How can this be achived?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards Christian
