PreInstallation CentOS (as host for virtualmin pro)

So I took the step and purchase VirtualMin Pro. I like to install this on a CentOS 4.3 server and I want to overcome some issues:

 1. Which type of installation do I choose ? (I think the server installation)
 2. Do I disable the firewall and/or also the SELunix? (Provide Virtualmin a firewall by itselfs)
 3. Do I leave the default options of the server-install of do I check/uncheck other packages as a pre-install OS for Virtualmin Pro? (Beside editor-packages and text-base packages)

Some questions to be sure

Hey Sjaak,

So I took the step and purchase VirtualMin Pro.

Thanks for your purchase. We're happy to have you on board.

1. Which type of installation do I choose ? (I think the server installation)

It doesn't really matter...but a Server installation doesn't install a bunch of extra stuff, so it is the best choice if disk space matters at all. We install everything we need--so any installation type will work.

2. Do I disable the firewall and/or also the SELunix? (Provide Virtualmin a firewall by itselfs)

We don't currently do anything with the firewall (which we've found confuses some folks--so we're adding firewall setup to the next release of install.sh). We do disable SELinux, since even the targetted policy isn't loose enough for virtual hosting (CGI scripts with SuExec cause problems, FTP vs. Apache permissions cause problems, mail delivery and pickup to/from Maildirs cause problems).

In short, you can configure your firewall using the Webmin module, or you can use your OS firewall configuration tool. At the moment, we don't touch it. (As mentioned, we'll soon be adding rules to open the necessary ports for virtual hosting, because customers have been asking for it. But if you install today, you'll have to open those yourself.)

3. Do I leave the default options of the server-install of do I check/uncheck other packages as a pre-install OS for Virtualmin Pro? (Beside editor-packages and text-base packages)

You can install any extra packages you want, but you don't need to install anything for Virtualmin. We will install what we need during the installation (if you run into any dependency errors, let us know...those still sneak in sometimes, particularly on RHEL/CentOS due to the way OS-provided dependencies get installed).

Holler if you have any further questions. We're here to help.
