bad clams

ubuntu 16.04 webmin 1.890

issue began in the early morning hours when clam apparently crapped out, according to my mail.err log. messages stopped being delivered, and began piling up in the queue. manually starting clam and flushing the queue got things rolling again. but i was perplexed as a previous reboot should have done the trick. so i rebooted again, and the problem came back - dead clam. another manual clam start and flush, and voila!

so, for the heck of it, i went to bootup and shutdown, clamav-daemon, and changed it to NOT start at boot time and saved. then i attempted to reverse it, but after setting it to start at boot time and clicking save, i get "Failed to save action : Systemd service clamav-daemon cannot be created unless a command is given".

now on webmin 1.902.

the problem persists, requiring me to manually start clamav-daemon upon every reboot.

i think this forum has gone bye bye over the last few months...hardly anything is being resonded too.

Either this business is going bad, the panel has developed some serious issues that are taking all available staff and time to fix, or something new is in the pipeline also taking every staff members spare time!

I am very seriously considering moving to another competing control panel as a number of issues are starting to pop up now that simply have not been a problem in the past. Combine that with a lack of input from staff and one gets the feeling something is amiss. I for one cannot go on like this and am about to "walk" over to either ISPConfig or Centos Web Panel. Doing that would be a real shame. However, in my business model there are two competing elements required...

Either 1. a very proactive forum team addressing ongoing questions about how to use the software or 2. An exceptional Document Wikii that very well explains and answer questions likely to be raised on a forum.

At present, this platform has neither of the above elements in place. Basic setup is not a problem solving platform.

Sorry for the rant...its out of complete and utter frustration that i have only just begun to experience as a result of increasingly numerous unanswered questions by lots of users on this forum in recent months. I appreciate that the idea is for the open source element to give more, however this is simply not happening either. Is that because the most experienced users of this software have "left the fold"?

Now if you have read beyond the first few lines of my rant...now for my answer to your problem...

Have you checked your log files? I have to admit that i am a slacker in this regard. The thing is that often, getting that file and looking through it provides either an immediate solution, or something one can google search to determine the cause and solution to said problem, or something one can post here that others who have direct knowledge of the problem may offer a cause and solution.

I think the log file is found at /var/log/clamd.virtualmin

AJECreative is the home of $5 webhosting, $15/month VPS servers (1cpu,1gb RAM, 25GB storage)
Centos7, Debian9, or Ubuntu18LTS
Available Control Panels = Centos-Webpanel, Cyberpanel, or Virtualmin

I like your rant, and please do move to CentoSweb and create a ticket for help, I tell you that you will regret it... and I did try it for a long time, more than 2 years, good luck... . I don't now about ispconfig.

Check your log files and provide a bit more details we can't help if you say it won't start or it doesn't work...

i could find no /var/log/clamd.virtualmin.

find / -type f -name "clamd.virtualmin" produced no results either.

ran

systemctl enable clamav-daemon

got

Synchronizing state of clamav-daemon.service with SysV init with /lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install...
Executing /lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install enable clamav-daemon
insserv: warning: current start runlevel(s) (empty) of script `clamav-daemon' overrides LSB defaults (2 3 4 5).
insserv: warning: current stop runlevel(s) (0 1 2 3 4 5 6) of script `clamav-daemon' overrides LSB defaults (0 1 6).

then clamav-daemon.service disappeared from the bootup and shutdown list. however, clamav-daemon now starts automatically upon boot and mail appears to be flowing freely.

so while im all fixed up, webmin still appears to be broken. i sure hope this project isnt dying! but after dude's rant and 8 months of virtually no attention paid to this topic, im starting to wonder. :'(
