smtp and imap configuration?

i've just 3 questions: 1- how to set max size for email using smtp server? 2- how to disable imap access for some user except others? 3- how to set max life time in Trash folder for email deleted via imap access?

Thanks

1- how to set max size for email using smtp server?

You can find that and related options in Webmin -> Servers -> Postfix -> General Resource Control.

2- how to disable imap access for some user except others

What specifically are you trying to disable here? Do you want to remove the ability to send and receive email altogether? Or just check email via imap?

3- how to set max life time in Trash folder for email deleted via imap access?

I looked and looked, both trying a search, and manually browsing through a ton of the options, and I just don't see anything for manually removing the trash.

If anyone else knows if this can be automated, please chime in! :-)

thanks for your help. Regarding question 2: 2- how to disable imap access for some user except others?

i mean that i want user to have only pop3 access so they download email everytime and make free space on server. but for my main domain i want imap access. thanks

a user can download pop3 email messages and still leave the original on the server. so point 2 is invalid imo

you want to set the mailbox quota so a user cannot have unlimited space..(though it is already limited to domain quota)

Im just gonna holler something here.

Might there be a way to add something like IMAP_EMPTYTRASH=Trash:7 into dovecote's config file?

Nope. Dovecot doesn't have any mailbox deletion capabilities, and shouldn't. If you think of Dovecot as a fancy file server this will make more sense (POP and IMAP are both actually closer to file servers than "mail" servers; they just have a lot of special capabilities that make them well-suited for a shared mail environment, and for the workload that mail presents). Anything that applied to everyone would tick off somebody.

Virtualmin has the ability to empty the spam folder in this way, via a simple cronjob, but Trash isn't something we've ever thought to cover, and I don't think we would consider it. I think it's pretty firmly in the realm of the mail client rather than a server-side function. Usermin, on the other hand, if it doesn't already have this ability, definitely should. All full-featured mail clients I know of have the capability.

For example, in Thunderbird, right click on the "Trash" folder, and click Properties in the menu. This pops up a dialog with several tabs. Click Retention Policy, and set it to something like "Delete messages more than __ days old". Set it, and click OK.

Interestingly, there is an option labeled "Use server defaults", but I'm pretty sure that means "Use the default Retention Policy that I set for this policy in Thunderbird", rather than "Whatever the mail server does". Confusing wording is confusing.

One could argue that Cyrus tries to do too many things, and ends up doing them all pretty poorly. ;-)

So, I suppose one could make the argument that this functionality does fit into the POP/IMAP server...but I don't think it does. Cyrus, though, does cover a lot more ground than mere POP/IMAP service.
