can't access ftp

The server is running ok for a wile and I was able to connect on ftp but now I can't. I don't have nothing change on the server. the port 21 is open. I can login throe ssh but not with ftp. It give me this error:

Status:  Connecting to 89.205.123.186:21...
Status:  Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Error:   Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server

this is from filezilla but I can connect from fireftp(firefox plugin) Tanks

What Linux distribution are you using on the FTP server?
