HELP!!! ALL OF MY WEB SITES ARE OFFLINE!!!

Last night everything was great. I woke this morning and ALL web sites on ALL virtual server domains were gone!

The network infrastructure is ok. I can ping the domain fine.

I took a look at the file system. The device holding the Joomla websites had been renamed disk -1 BUT NOT BY ME!

I renamed it "disk" but the system still cannot find the website files.

Have the pointers been corrupted?

Remote login has been enabled until the 9th.

Please help! All of my customers websites are offline.

It looks like what you have in disk-1 is correct, and that something else existing in /media/disk may have prevented it from being mounted on the mountpoint you expected.

How is /media/disk normally mounted? I don't see anything anything listed in /etc/fstab that says to mount it, do you know where that is typically handled on your system?

I don't understand the question.

/media/disk is a external USB 100GB hard drive. I plug it in and it works or it used to work. When I went to bed last night it worked.

How can this be fixed?

I deleted the .hal-mtab and .hal-mtab locked file, rebooted the server.

Now all of the web pages are back.

What happened? How can I prevent this in the future.

I hate freaking out.

After some changes I made, it should be working now.

By default, there's no guarantee that an external device such as a usb drive will be mounted using a given name.

The fact that it's been the same name thus far is largely luck :-)

What I did is unmount /media/disk-1, and manually mount it on /media/disk.

Do you think this has anything to do with SAMBA shares?
