DNS - sub-subdomains - wildcard, etc

Hi there,

I have a web elearning application that generates sub-sub domains for setting up different instances with private branding, etc. I am trying to confirm that manually editing the DNS records for the domain such as  *.lms.domain.com.      600s    IN      A       10.0.0.10 will work as expected?

Thank you.

Howdy -- that should work, though I have an idea that may even work better for your case.

In Server Configuration -> Website Options, there is a setting called "Website matches all sub-domains?".

Clicking the "Help" for that shows the following:

When this option is enabled, requests for any URL under the domain (like http://abc.example.com) will return the virtual server's website. This can be useful if you host an application that can return different content based on the requested domain name, such as Wordpress MU.
If the virtual server's DNS domain is hosted on this system, Virtualmin will also add the wildcard * DNS record when Yes is selected.

Would that do what you're after?

possibly. The application is not on the same server though. a completely dedicated machine.. any issues?

thanks
