configuring mod_fcgi - clear & defined "how-to" please.

Hi there,

Wondering if there is a clear and defined "how-to" guide on setting up mod_fcgi, this thread: http://www.virtualmin.com/node/8462 is a little confusing as the threaded nature of the forum system some recent replies appear on the first page etc.

In addition there are 3 or 4 different comments about what to do to set it up and I cannot make a clear heads or tails of configuration.

Being that this is something included with webmin/virtualmin at installation would be nice for a documentation page on how to actually do it.

Howdy -- if you're using Virtualmin Pro, there's nothing you'd need to do, that works out of the box. You can tweak whether Virtualmin uses fcgid, cgi, or mod_php simply by going into System Settings -> Server Templates -> Default -> Apache Website, and setting "Default PHP execution mode".

Currently, there's more steps involved in setting up fcgid if you're a Virtualmin GPL user.

However, Jamie is working to move that simple configuration into Virtualmin GPL, and it should become available in version 3.78.

Ah that will be awesome! Any timeframe on the 3.78 drop?

I'm just configuring 2 more things and fcgi is the last step in that process for setting up before I open-slather hosting for people outside those I immediately know.

Version 3.77 is being finalized now, and should be out at any time in the Virtualmin repositories.

As for 3.78, the one with the suexec/fcgid configuration you're looking for, it's always tough to put a specific time on a future release... but if I had to guess, it's likely a few weeks... so sometime around the second half of March -- plus or minus a little bit :-)

Ouch >.< I might have to sort this out manually then (hoping to have it all good to go within a week).

If you like, I could send you a pre-release for 3.78 with the feature included?

That would be handy yes thank you.

EDIT:

Actually, I can wait until it's released proper. I'll limit my hosting to those I know and trust (have a few coming on board in the next week).
