Virtualmin GPL/PRO and WHMCS ????

Is Virtualmin GPL compatible with WHMCS?

I am planning to setup a small hosting business and I would like to offer budget as well as premium hosting accounts with WHMCS for billing and automation. The budget hosting accounts should be Virtualmin GPL and the premium with Virtualmin Pro. Is however WHMCS compatible with both?

Howdy,

Yup, Virtualmin GPL will work just fine with WHMCS.

In fact, there's a script for installing it within the "Install Scripts" section, which should aid in getting it setup, as well as simplify maintaining it.

It will work with Virtualmin GPL and Pro, though those can't both be installed on the same server, you would need two different servers for those.

Is this confirmed 100%? Because WHMCS pre-sales support said the opposite however they did not specify if they wanted to say "we don't support it". Who provides the bridge module between the two? WHMCS or Virtualmin Inc?

I was expecting that it will not work on the same server but I assume there will be no problem to have them installed in separate VMs..right? Saying that, Cloudmin can be used as well I suppose?

Howdy,

WHMCS should work with Virtualmin GPL -- and if it doesn't, we'd certainly like to hear about it :-)

WHMCS is one of the small handful of Install Scripts available on Virtualmin GPL (ie, you can install it by going into the "Install Scripts" link). I assure you we didn't put it there for it not to work :-)

There was a point in time, some time ago now, where it wouldn't have worked -- I believe the Virtualmin API was originally written for Virtualmin Pro.

So I think when the WHMCS folks say it won't work, that's likely using the knowledge they had when they originally built the support for Virtualmin. Back then, that was true.

But since that time, we later went and extended the Virtualmin GPL functionality :-)

As for who makes the bridge between the two -- Virtualmin has an API, and WHMCS calls that API.

And yes, you could certainly install different Virtualmin versions on different VM's, and even provision and/or manage the two with Cloudmin.

Hi and thank you for the reply. Is the compatibility with the latest version of WHMCS confirmed or you are referring to a previous version? I dont want to come across as a non believer, i just want to get the facts before ordering hardware/software/licences etc!

By the way, are you part of Virtualmin Inc? Tks again.

Well, remember that with Install Scripts, Virtualmin performs the installation for you... and WHMCS is included in the Install Scripts in both Virtualmin Pro and GPL.

The app versions in the Install Scripts are kept up to date.

And if an app is included in the Install Scripts, it should work. And if it doesn't, we'd like to hear about it :-)

I installed WHMCS over GPL from install scripts and install run smooth but now I have few questions about the config.

In WHMCS there is a Server Config module where we can select Virtualmin. But when I click on [Login to Contro Panel] button the WHMCS try to access a link that isn't working... https://mydomain.tld/session_login.cgi

And here I'm stuck :)

Howdy,

Well, it's been awhile since I've setup WHMCS, I don't remember all the details there (and you can get help from their support if need be).

But, make sure you've set in the WHMCS settings what your Virtualmin server is -- you'd want to specify the hostname or IP address, along with the port (10000 by default).

For example, in Setup -> Servers -> Edit Server, you can set "Hostname" to something like:

my.server.hostname:10000

That was the solution, we need to put also the port in hostname field and it work well. Now I'll test the automation and will come back with details about how to.

This should all work fine. We have a couple of WHMCS provisioned GPL Virtualmin sites (although almost all of this runs through Pro versions). They're really very close to each other besides the few documented differences between GPL and Pro.
