What is the right choice for me, virtualmin or webmin?

Hi I have just installed debian 5 on my server and am looking to use the server to host a website I own. I have always used webmin, just because its what I know. But now that I see virtual min, just wondering what would be the best option for me, from what I understand virtualmin is for virtual machines, but then I look at screenshots of virtual min it looks more user friendly and also has options to manage webmail, php config etc...

Basically my site will be for selling certain products and I will also be setting up a ticket system and support forum.. Can anyone recommend what would be the best user friendly option for me..

Help is greatly appreciated..

Thanks Husskii

Howdy,

Virtualmin isn't actually for virtual machines -- that's another product called Cloudmin.

Virtualmin is a module that sits on top of Webmin that provides features for managing "virtual hosting".

And whether you're dealing with one domain or hundreds, it can make a lot of things simpler.

Also, the Webmin functionality is still there... what Virtualmin does is provide additional features for managing domains, websites, email, dns, mysql, ftp users, and the like.

What I might recommend is using the Virtualmin install script (install.sh) to setup your freshly installed Debian box, and to work from there.

Good luck!

virtualmin is a module to webmin, so its both. webmin more for managing your system and virtualmin for managing domains (webhosting) I'd definately get virtualmin as well.

Until today i never heard of it, and actually stumbled on it by accident whilst searching for webmin, it does look user friendly and from your explanations, it might be the right way to go...

Thanks guys Ill give it a try.

after following a tutorial which links back to this website, I found that installed failed..
I then did some research and found that my sources were debian.org etch (i think) and I read a reply by joe in another post, saying tht with debian 5, the source needs to be debian.org lenny source & not .org etch... but then again that was for someone who was upgrading and not installing a fresh install.

just for reference is it overkill if I have both webmin and virtualmin.

because I might go with webmin just to get things started and then add virtualmin so I can get familiar with it..

I used the following install

 apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

then

wget http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/install.sh

chmod +x install.sh

./install.sh
