Email from address wrong?

So, in the webmin configuration screen for user interface, in the box that says hostname to display in webmin, I have specified other name and some name so non techies who use webmin understand what machine they are on since machine names are just host##. So, as an example, call it LiveWeb for this example for the value in the other name field.

In the webmin sending email configuration page, I have specified the from address as default, which it shows as webmin@host##.ourdomain.com

So... I would guess that emails sent by webmin would come from that address, but instead, it comes from webmin@LiveWeb.ourdomain.com, which does not exist so emails get bounced by our mail server as it obviously won't pass SPF. This is coming from the server status module. However, it could be affecting other modules as well, just don't know off hand. Ran out of disc space and noticed did not receive my status that should have sent, figured out this is why email was rejected.

Before you ask, in the server status module, it specifies a from address for email as default.

So, my contention is that the overridden name I am using in the webmin user interface module should have absolutely nothing to do with from addresses used in email.

I will try explicitly changing the from address in the sending email configuration screen to see if that will work as a workaround.

Howdy -- so just to clarify, are you using Virtualmin on this system as well? Or is this system only running Webmin?

If you are using Virtualmin, if you go into System Settings -> Virtualmin Config -> Actions upon user and server creation, what is "From: address for email sent by Virtualmin" set to?

I would not expect that to matter as system and server status is a webmin module, but perhaps it matters. Anyway, it is set to default. So, I would contend that the problem is the use of the user-interface value, which should be for the UI, not sending emails.

BTW - I changed the sending email configuration screen. As I had said, it was set to "default" and that screen shows what the default is. It showed the correct default. So, to test the workaround, I set it to a specific address, and the specific address I used is the SAME email as it showed for default. Sending now comes from the correct address. But it's still a bug.

Yes, this is a bug in the UI ... I'll fix this in the next Webmin release (1.620).
